We started Spicy Socials in 2024 with the aim to meet up with like minded individuals who love the outdoors. The group has been set up by Andy, Clare and Gareth who are local to the area and want to showcase the beautiful countryside we live in weather that be during a walk, hike or bike ride.
Why have we decided to set this up now? and why the name ‘Spicy Socials’?
Back in 2015 a friend of ours Mark Steene was out on his road bike when he came off it and had a life changing accident that left him paralysed from his neck down and in 2021 Mark unfortunately passed away.
Mark was always busy enjoying the outdoors, running, biking and climbing and was often out and about in his wheelchair tearing up the country lanes looking for challenges.
We wanted to pass on his love of the outdoors by setting up this group.
Most people who knew Mark knew him as Spicy Mark hence the name Spicy Socials, as simple as that 😉
All of our socials start and finish at our local pub the Cross Keys, Llanfynydd and after every walk, hike, run or cycle ride they provide us with tea, coffee and the now famous flapjacks.
Keep an eye on our events and come and join us.
As well as getting people outside to enjoy the outdoors and for like minded people to meet up, our group is run by volunteers and we don’t ask for any money in providing these free events, all we ask for is if you can spare the odd pound or two is for a donation to Marks chosen charity Wales Air Ambulance, follow the link if you want to find out more about Wales Air Ambulance and Air Tastes Beautiful.
